February 20, 2010 at 1:20 pm
Speaker Michael Busch recently proposed legislation, The Safe Schools Act of 2010, that would increase communication between schools and law enforcement officials about possible gang activity in schools. While the legislation has received a generally warm welcome, some worry that it could step on student privacy and place an extra burden on teachers. We then get some analysis of the proposal from Dr. Barbara Babb, Director of the Center for Families, Children and the Courts at the University of Baltimore Law School, and Cynthia Boersma, Legislative Director for American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland.
