5-15-12: Baltimore’s 16th Archbishop
Bishop William E. Lori will become the 16th Archbishop of Baltimore tomorrow. He has headed the diocese of Bridgeport, Conn. for the past eleven years, but before that he spent a lot of time in Maryland.
He earned a master’s degree from Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg in 1977, the same year he was ordained. He was briefly associate pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Landover, and then worked 18 years for Washington’s archbishop, the late Cardinal James Hickey, in Hyattsville.
Today Sheilah talks to Bishop Lori about contraception, immigration, same-sex marriage, and more.
During the interview, Bishop Lori said, “To simply assert that it makes no difference whether one’s parents are male and female or two members of the same sex, we have no data for this.” The American Psychological Association has compiled the research findings on this issue in in its report, “Lesbian and Gay Parenting.”
The Vatican recently cracked down on the Leadership Conference of Women Religious for promoting, “radical feminist themes incompatible with the Catholic faith.” Bishop Lori tells Sheilah what that means for women religious here in the Baltimore diocese:
