Yesterday morning in Burma Kyaw Zaw Lwin was released from Insein prison, after being arrested and imprisoned in September and sentenced to three years hard labor in February. He’s due back in the United States this afternoon. Talking to reporters at an airport in Thailand yesterday, he said, “In one way, I’m really happy but on the other side, all my friends and my family are still in prison. That’s my only message.”

Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen and Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin were among people Wa Wa Kyaw, Kyaw Zaw Lwin’s fiancee who lives in Gaithersburg, thanked for their help. Her thanks came in a release from human rights organization Freedom Now.
