The Baltimore-based filmmaker Matt Porterfield made waves in 2006 with his first feature-length film Hamilton. In the New Yorker, Richard Brody named it one of the best films of the decade. Porterfield’s follow-up, Putty Hill, has played at festivals in Berlin and Buenos Aires and Atlanta and Austin; this weekend it has two showings at the Charles Theatre in Baltimore as part of the Maryland Film Festival. Porterfield joins Tom in the studio to talk about Putty Hill.
Matt Porterfield is also a lecturer in the Film and Media Studies Program at Johns Hopkins.
