8-6-10: Bay on the Brink

News21 is a national summer newsroom project at eight top journalism schools. Teams of journalists report, write, and produce in-depth journalism about the ways America is changing.  The buzzwords on its website are issues like “poverty,” “elderly,” “immigration,” “prisons,” “energy,” “transportation.”

And one of the highlighted words is: “Chesapeake.” That’s the issue claimed by the News21 team at the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill School of Journalism.  They call this summer’s project “Bay on the Brink,” and they’re finishing up their multimedia work today.

We talk with Leslie Walker, the faculty member in charge of the project, and fellow Justin Karp.
