Each year around this time, a few Baltimore children get some great news: they find out that they’ve been awarded a scholarship to study music. This is the 19th year of the Rosa Pryor Music Scholarship Fund, which tries to find the most promising young musical talent in Baltimore and help them pursue their studies.

You might know Rosa Pryor as “Ramblin’ Rose” – she wrote about local entertainment for years at the Afro and the Baltimore Times. She’s also the author of a book called African-American Entertainment in Baltimore.

Tom talks to Rosa Pryor about the scholarship. Joining them is Dr. Donna T. Hollie, who helps find these talented young people.

The Black and Gold Ball Scholarship and Award Banquet is Saturday, October 23 at The Forum Catering in Baltimore.

The scholarship winners will be announced tonight during a press reception at the Arch Social Club at the corner of Pennsylvania and North avenues in Baltimore. For more information, call 410-833-9474.
