10-13-10: Our Patchwork Nation

It’s election season, which means it’s time for America to once again ask…”Who are we?” In 2004, that depended on whether you lived in a Red State or a Blue State. We’ve had soccer moms, NASCAR dads, even “Bobos in Paradise.”

In their new book Our Patchwork Nation: The Surprising Truth About the Real America — The 12 Community Types That Make Up Our Nation, journalist Dante Chinni and University of Maryland government professor Jim Gimpel go for a little more nuance in telling us who we are…but not so much that we can’t find labels that reveal the nature of the voting blocs and local economies that make up our nation.

Chinni and Gimpel join Sheilah from the campus of the University of Maryland College Park.
