It wasn’t the first attempted assassination of a Congressional representative, but it was the first that we experienced mostly online.

Our social media gurus Nathan Jurgenson and P.J. Rey talk to Sheilah about social media’s power to inform and distort our connection to national tragedies like the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ).

Nathan and P.J. are Ph.D. students in the sociology program at University of Maryland College Park, and they blog at Cyborgology.
