R. Sargent Shriver died here in Maryland yesterday. He was 95.
Sargent Shriver was the founder of the Peace Corps. He also crafted President Lyndon Johnson’s campaign to end poverty, and he ran as the Democratic candidate for vice president in 1972.
Sheilah speaks with the presidential candidate on that ticket, Senator George McGovern.
We also aired a 2007 interview with Dr. John Martello, founder and executive director of The Shriver Center at University of Maryland Baltimore County. It focuses on Sargent Shriver’s time in Maryland.
