3-11-11: The Promise and Peril of Computer Networks

Back in October 2009, President Barack Obama announced National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. “In this information age,” he said, “the incredible technologies that we depend on everyday present us with both great promise and great peril.”

Less than a year later, the Pentagon launched the U.S. Cyber Command here in Maryland, at Fort Meade.

On Monday evening, Johns Hopkins University’s Foreign Affairs Symposium will host a panel on cybersecurity. This morning, Sheilah talks to one of the panelists: Sam Small, an assistant research scientist for the Information Security Institute at Hopkins.

Monday’s cybersecurity panel starts at 8 p.m. at the Glass Pavilion on Hopkins’ Homewood campus. The panel is part of the semester-long student-run Foreign Affairs Symposium, and it’s free and open to the public. More information at the Foreign Affairs Symposium website.
