4-6-11: Congressman Elijah Cummings

The current budget impasse in Congress could lead to a federal government shutdown as early as Friday. Republicans want to cut $61 billion; Democrats have offered $33 billion. Republicans are offering a deal that would fund the government for another week. President Obama has said he’s tired of continuing resolutions and wants a final budget his agencies can rely on for the next fiscal year.

Elijah Cummings is a Democrat who represents parts of Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Howard County in the House. Late yesterday afternoon, I spoke to Congressman Cummings during a break in a hearing, and I asked him to tell me what’s been going on behind the scenes…

On Monday, April 18, Rep. Cummings is hosting a job fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fifth Regiment Armory on 29th Division Street in Baltimore.
