The visual and performing artist Joyce Scott has been a major force on the Maryland art scene for decades, and her work has also been recognized nationally and internationally. This week, she’ll be featured on the PBS series Craft in America, which will air on MPT this Sunday at 4 p.m.

Today, Tom talks to Joyce Scott, and to Carol Sauvion, executive producer of Craft in America.

The Buyers Market of American Craft will host Joyce Scott and Carol Sauvion for a “Producer’s Screening” of the episode on Sunday, July 10 at 11:30 at the Baltimore Convention Center.  The Buyers Market is usually open only to retailers, but this year, for the first time, they’ll open the market to the public, following the screening.

Thank you so much, Tom Hall and WYPR, for the interview with Joyce Scott and Carol Sauvion. Your question about art vs. craft is very timely: In the consumer world, many of us want to know where our products come from, so it’s important to emphasize that craft always involves the “hand of the maker.”
