7-4-11: The Great American Pastime
As Orioles fans endure another frustrating season, our thoughts often turn to the halcyon days of yesteryear. For many fans, the 14 years between 1983-1996 will be remembered not only as years in which the Orioles were competitive, but also as the years when we enjoyed the talent of one of the greats in baseball broadcasting. Jon Miller was our very own play-by-play announcer here in Baltimore. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, and when he left Baltimore, that’s where he returned; since 1997 he’s been the radio and television voice of the San Francisco Giants. He also does the Sunday night game for ESPN, and he regularly announces playoff and World Series games. Last year, Jon Miller was inducted into the broadcast wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Tom talks with him about what it’s been like to narrate the Great American Pastime.
In this web extra, Tom gets Jon Miller’s take on Peter Angelos.
