7-20-2011: Baltimore Club
This interview originally aired on June 7th, 2010
Some styles of music are inseparable from the cities in which they emerged. New Orleans has zydeco. Washington D.C. has go-go. Baltimore has Baltimore Club.
One local music writer has decided to write a history of this gritty, eccentric style of dance music. Al Shipley has written about club and other styles of music for City Paper and his two blogs, Narrowcast and Government Names. Now he’s at work on a book called Tough Breaks: The Story of Baltimore Club Music.
Special thanks to DJ Booman for remixing the end of this segment into a club track!
