August 9, 2011 at 8:21 am Leave a comment

On Sunday at midnight, a contract expired for most of the unionized workers in the landline division of Verizon Communications Inc. after six weeks of negotiations. Two unions—the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhoood of Electrical Workers—announced that 45,000 workers would go on strike immediately, 4,000 of them in Maryland. Today at noon in Hunt Valley, local CWA members will hold a quote “Rally in the Valley.”

We’ll hear from Sandy Arnette, Verizon’s spokesperson for Maryland, and Bill Dulaney, president of CWA Local 2101 in Baltimore, about how this will affect service locally and what it will take for the union to come back to the table.
