Last spring, Dr. Sheri Parks published a book that offered a fresh and compelling argument about the role of black women in American culture.  The notion of the strong black woman is familiar to all of us:  the stable, no nonsense matriarch, who selflessly cares for everyone. She’s found everywhere, from antebellum plantations to the Huxtables’ living room.

Tom talks to Dr. Parks about her book, Fierce Angels: The Strong Black Woman in American Life and Culture.
