The weekend after next, Baltimore’s High Zero Festival of Experimental Improvised Music will present its 13th year of the sound of surprise. For four nights in a row, four sets of musicians who may never have met each other will take a leap into the unknown.

Each evening starts with a solo performance. Today, Tom Hall talks to British saxophonist John Butcher, who will kick off the first night, September 22.

High Zero starts with special events on on September 20 and 21, followed by concerts September 22 through 25. Find a full listing at highzero.org.
