9-12-11: Swim Across America

(UPDATE: Note that the open water swim in Pasadena’s Magothy River has been moved to Meadowbrook Pool because of storm runoff.)

This weekend, hundreds of swimmers will jump into the Magothy River in Pasadena or a pool in Mt. Washington to raise money for the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital.  Swim Across America holds events like this all over the country, and last year, for the first time, Maryland hosted a swim, which raised nearly $500,000 to support cancer research.

Today, Tom Hall talks to event co-chair Betsy Jiranek, and to oncologist Luis Diaz, director of the Swim Across America Lab at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center.

The swim on the Magothy River in Pasadena and in the Meadowbrook Pool in Mt. Washington starts at 8:00 a.m. Sunday.  To enter as a swimmer, volunteer, or make a donation to support cancer research, please visit Swim Across America.
