Our mandate here at Maryland Morning to focus on the Free State doesn’t always mean staying inside its borders. Today we’re talking to Dr. Najmaldin Karim.  He’s a neurosurgeon from Silver Spring, whose son is a senior studying accounting at the University of Maryland.  Dr. Karim, who has lived more than half his life in the U.S., is a U.S. citizen.  But last year he returned to his birthplace – Kirkuk, Iraq.  Dr. Karim was  elected to a seat in Parliament, and this spring was appointed governor of the province of Kirkuk.
