10-19-11: An Obsession with Dieting

What are you planning to have for lunch today?  You have more healthy choices than ever before.  Now, for example, it’s easier to buy organic, eat gluten-free, or eat less meat.  We are perhaps more careful than ever about what we put in our bodies.   But can eating healthy become an unhealthy obsession?

A Colorado physician, Steven Bratman, thinks it might.  He’s coined the term orthorexia–which means “correct appetite” in Greek.   Tom speaks about it with nutritionist Monica Reinagel, who’s the creator of the podcast Nutrition Diva, and with Dr. Angela Guarda, professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University.  She’s also the director of the school’s Eating Disorders Program.
