10-24-11: How to Grow?

How much of Maryland should remain open space–and how much should be opened up for development?  These are questions being argued over in every county in Maryland, and often disputes over property can feel very personal.  Right now, attention is focused on Anne Arundel county, which is going through its once a decade rezoning process.   The county is facing a lawsuit over several of the zoning changes it approved, including one that allow a new car dealership in Edgewater, and increase the size of a neighborhood of mobile homes in the southern part of the county.

Sheilah talks about how these changes are unfolding–and how they’re being affected by Smart Growth — with Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold, and Dru Schmidt-Perkins, Executive Director at 1,000 Friends of Maryland.
