11-8-11: Domestic Violence — Not Just a “Women’s Issue”

Actress and philanthropist Patricia Modell died at the age of 80 on October 12. One of the causes she supported was ending domestic violence.

Tomorrow, the University of Maryland School of Social Work will host the second annual Patricia and Arthur Modell Symposium on Domestic Violence.

Carole Alexander will moderate. For 26 years, she was the executive director of House of Ruth Maryland, and she’s now on the clinical faculty at the School of Social Work. Victor Rivas Rivers, an actor and an activist against domestic violence, and he will be the symposium’s keynote speaker. Sheilah talks to them both about promising efforts to end domestic violence, and the role that men and boys can play.

The symposium starts at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. The $50 registration fee includes lunch. You can register here.
