Wednesday night at The Windup Space, Tom Hall interviewed filmmaker Sig Libowitz for this month’s Maryland Morning Screen Test. We also screened The Response, which Libowitz wrote and produced, and which was directed by Baltimore native Adam Rodgers.

Sig Libowitz enrolled at the University of Maryland School of Law after a career producing films in New York and L.A. In a class about Guantanamo legal proceedings, he discovered the “Combatant Status Review Tribunal,” where prisoners of the Global War on Terror were not allowed lawyers, and they couldn’t see the evidence against them.

Libowitz read thousands of pages of tribunal transcripts, and he wrote and produced The Response, a thirty-minute courtroom drama that was shortlisted for an Academy Award.

Take a listen to the fascinating conversation that took place after the screening, including lots of audience questions [36:13]: Photographs by Chris Moore. Thanks to Joe Squared for providing our guests and crew with pizza.

If you want to get a copy of the film or schedule a screening, Sig Libowitz invites you to visit the film’s website and Facebook page.

Entry filed under: Arts and Culture, Movies, On Air, Screen Test.
