Maryland Morning is excited to welcome the mind-bogglingly prolific Skizz Cyzyk to the fourth in our monthly Screen Test film series. This month’s Screen Test will be this coming Wednesday, September 29 at 7 p.m. at The Windup Space in Baltimore’s Station North neighborhood.
If you’ve lived in Baltimore for more than, say, a week, you’ve probably experienced Cyzyk’s work in one of its many varieties. He’s been an important presence behind area cameras, projectors, drums and modified stringed instruments since the early 80s.
His first experience manipulating moving images was making a slideshow about a stuffed rodent’s rise to power. Since then he’s created animated, experimental, and documentary films, not to mention ones based on short fiction and a bunch of music videos. His work has shown at festivals from coast-to-coast and in Europe. He’s also helped put on a number of film events in the area, Mansion Theatre, MicroCineFest and the Maryland Film Festival among them.
On September 29 at The Windup Space, Maryland Morning arts and culture editor Tom Hall will talk with Cyzyk about his 25 years in film. Following their conversation, we’ll get to see selections from Cyzyk’s catalog, including an animated collage inspired by Earl Weaver, a music video for Baltimore band The Jennifers, and a trailer for an in-the-works documentary about the Catonsville Nine. At the end we’ll open it up for audience questions and conversation. As always, the Screen Test is free and open to the public.
