12-19-11: An Unlikely Coalition
Governor O’Malley is expected to try again in the coming General Assembly session to win passage of one of the pillars of his environmental agenda, that didn’t even come to a vote when he tried it last year: subsidies for a proposed offshore wind farm.
Another element: just last week, NRG Energy pulled the plug on plans to install a wind turbine farm off the coast of Rehobeth Beach in Delaware. NRG seems to be saying, federal subsidies are being cut so much, we can’t make the economics of a wind farm work.
Still — backing the Maryland wind proposal is an unlikely coalition that includes both environmentalists and organized labor. Sheilah talks with Mike Tidwell, Director of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, and Rod Easter, President of the Baltimore Building and Construction Trades Council.
We also want to hear from those who oppose the construction of an offshore wind farm. Let us know your thoughts and questions at 410-881-3162, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Or leave a comment.
